Scope of Work – Conversion Kit for CAT 320 Excavator to Operate MacLean MB50 or Equivalent Rock Breaker
Client: Venetia Mine
Supplier: Epiroc, Barloworld, etc.
Date: 17 November 2025
OBJECTIVE
To design, supply, deliver, and install a complete plug-and-play conversion kit for a Caterpillar 320 excavator, enabling it to operate as an underground rock breaker compatible with the MacLean MB50 or an equivalent hammer.
SCOPE OF SUPPLY AND SERVICES
The supplier shall provide:
1. Design and Engineering Assessment
o Conduct a detailed assessment of the Caterpillar 320 excavator to determine all modifications required for underground rock-breaking operations.
o Evaluate existing hydraulic circuits, control systems, and structural components.
o Ensure compliance with underground mining standards and safety requirements.
o Provide engineering endorsement by a qualified professional engineer for all design modifications.
2. Conversion Kit Design and Supply
o Design a complete plug-and-play kit including:
Hydraulic circuit modifications and additional components (hoses, valves, pumps if required).
Control system integration for breaker operation (joystick or foot pedal controls as needed).
Electrical harnesses and connectors for seamless integration.
o Ensure compatibility with MacLean MB50 or equivalent breaker specifications.
3. Attachment and Ancillary Components
o Supply and fitment of the rock breaker itself.
o Design and supply of attachment components including:
Mounting brackets/adaptor plate.
Pins and bushings (with exact dimensions to match CAT 320 linkage).
Quick coupler system if required.
o Ancillary equipment such as protective guards, and lubrication points.
4. Hammer Supply Conditions
o If the design incorporates the MacLean MB50 hammer, the mine will provide the hammer as a free-issue item.
o If the design requires a new hammer, the supplier must supply an equivalent or superior hammer meeting or exceeding the following critical specifications:
CRITICAL HAMMER SPECIFICATIONS (MACLEAN MB50 – STANLEY)
